Durch individualisierte Produkte lassen sich in Volumenmärkten Wettbewerbsvorteile erschließen. Dies führt in vielen Branchen zum Aufkommen einer variantenreichen Serienproduktion mit sehr spezifischen Anforderungen an das Produktionsmanagement. Dadurch wird ein tiefgreifendes Verständnis der zugehörigen Planungsaufgaben Auftragsannahme und Produktionsprogrammplanung erforderlich. Auf der Basis eines allgemeinen Bezugsrahmens und der Analyse der Entscheidungssituation entwickelt Thomas Volling ein quantitatives Planungssystem für die auftragsbezogene Planung bei variantenreicher Serienproduktion. Zur Validierung des Ansatzes stellt er die Ergebnisse einer simulationsbasierten Studie vor, die die grundlegenden Charakteristika der Automobilproduktion abbildet.
