Synopses & Reviews
Your teenager has moved away from home, he or she is living on mac and cheese and the hovel is strewn with empty pizza boxes. What to do? Don't despair. Based on extensive research (spying on, interviewing and cooking with about a dozen 18-22 year olds), Lori Gordon has written a witty, informative book that will have your young adult cooking food that won't make them throw up. In addition to recipes for Apple Walnut Pancakes, Beer Cheese Soup and Grilled Buffalo Chicken Wings, the book includes the humorous "J-Lo Trilogy," goofy essays, ideas for dealing with roommates who steal your Cheez-Its, and notes from a controlling mother. A perfect gift for anyone who slept through Home Ec. Over 100 recipes for your young adult.

THIS COOKBOOK IS PERFECT FOR A COLLEGE STUDENT Beer is NOT a Food Group Lori Powell Gordon Adventure Publications $12.92 "Beer is NOT a Food Group. Motherly Meals on Meager Means" was written by Lori Powell Gordon with help from her son John. It comes complete with "Post-it notes" on each page, sometimes related to the recipe or about buying and storing food. A number of the notes include a cute P.S., like "So what happened to the tall boy with the nose ring? He seemed so nice." Or "Billy, I called early Sunday morning and your girlfriend answered. Were you already at church?" The individual recipes include a "By the Way" at the bottom that is somehow realated to the recipe - although sometimes very loosely. Every so often there is a short essay like "Dear Mom and Dad" in which Billy explained about his semester grades. I enjoyed reading this book, and the recipes were well written. This would be a good book for someone off to their first apartment or college. Donna Middleton
