I had mixed feelings when buying this book because I own the rest of Mr Alexie's books and couldn't see why I was buying the older stories again. First I only sought out the new but slowly returned to the old. It's amazing. Every time I re-read one of his books, I'm always amazed to see how much I've learned in the interim.

As with all of Sherman Alexie's books, you laugh, you want to cry, and, most of all, you get it!

I never really appreciated the short story genre until reading this collection of Alexie's work that is so raw, compelling and humorous. I was so sad when I finished the book in a few days!

With each story, I kept thinking I'd put the book down-- but they're all so compelling... I've always loved Alexie's writing, but I think this collection might be my favorite.

In this collection of short stories I found myself getting angry that a story was ending; every time every story. Alexie's capacity for invoking emotion is amazing and you'll find yourself laughing at inappropriate times as well as crying about things that are funny. Someone was asking me about the book and I just handed it to them and said pick a story any story and read it right now. They were floored and will borrow it if I can unhinge it from my partners hands. Great work and a good introduction to get going on some of Alexie's novels. Read it.

Junot Diaz is right there, but Sherman Alexie continues to create protagonists who have never found the page before, giving voice to the voiceless over and over again.

Sherman Alexie writes with an honest, gritty and humorous attitude. His writing reminds me of Jim Carroll's The Basketball Diaries with his street-wise observations (and many references to basketball). The stories are so real, yet surreal in the details that you can't believe anyone could make up.
