Synopses & Reviews
This calendar is the fourth in a series of four that features the original Tolkien artwork of Greg and Tim Hildebrandt. The sketches and photos featured were created from posing sessions taken during the 1970s. They present a rare behind-the-scenes-look at the artistic process the Hildebrandt's employ to create their inspired Tolkien paintings. The artists used their children, their spouses, and family friends as models for the Middle-Earth characters. Each month explores the fascinating story of how the paintings were created. Some of the sketches and photos show their age, and the designer has made no attempt to remove stains or whiten yellowed tape marks. A few are badly torn and wrinkled; however most edges for the large sketches in this calendar have been digitally reworked for a designed effect. The actual sketches have been lightened overall so the calendar can more easily be used. Also included on each month are a running text and a short biographical look at the artists' life and their accomplishments.
