Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I first read this book when I was in 9th grade. I was blown away at the beautiful words and complex characters, changed the way I lived my daily life. Janet Fitch is one of my idols. She is so real and i can relate to every one of her charaters. Its been four years since I first got my hands on this book and I still reread my well-loved copy with coffee stains and writing all over the margins. I also adore Paint it Black although it has a different vibe. Paint it Black has a younger vibe and is more direct, due to the major difference in main characters Ingrid and Josie.
