Using clinical scenarios not only makes the reading fun and interesting, but it is far more engaging than sitting down with a bulleted text and reviewing detail after detail. This is a much better way to learn clinical information. I have not read a book like this before, and I certainly have enjoyed it.

I LOVED this book! I would recommend this book to all third-year students
The book uses a clinical approach and does not lose sight of the pathophysiology behind the disease -- GREAT preparation for being on the wards! The subject matter is also deceptively detailed, with much more information than one normally finds in a text of case files. The reader can use this book as either a rigorous self-test or a read-through introduction to the subject. Once again - a GREAT text!

Review
**Description**This softcover book in the Case Files series provides a review of clinical psychiatry for medical students. This is the second edition; the first edition was published in 2004.
**Purpose**The purpose is to help medical students prepare for the psychiatry clerkship NBME shelf exam and for psychiatry-related questions on the USMLE Step 2. These are worthy objectives, and the authors meet them.
**Audience**According to the authors, the book is targeted specifically for medical students currently on their psychiatry clerkship and/or who are studying for the USMLE Step 2. The authors are credible authorities.
**Features**The book is divided into sections, each with several chapters. Section I introduces the student to psychiatric patients, and includes a thorough review of the mental status exam. Section II reviews psychotherapy and psychopharmacology, and includes several excellent tables outlining various psychotropic medications. Section III is composed of 60 case scenarios, and includes diagnostic answers, analysis/explanations, treatments, and review questions. This is the section that students will probably find the most beneficial. Section IV serves as an index for the cases and clinical vignettes.Numerous clinical pearls are scattered throughout the various chapters.References end each chapter and an index ends the book.
**Assessment**The Case Files series is well known to medical students, and this second edition for psychiatry provides an excellent review of this subject. I particularly liked the way the clinical vignettes are presented in random order, much like real-life scenarios. The clinical pearls are very helpful, and the answers explaining the diagnoses excellent and thorough. Students should strongly consider carrying this book with them while doing their rotation in psychiatry.
Weighted Numerical Score: 93 - 4 Stars!
