La fundaci n, evoluci n y desarrollo de lo que fue la industria azucarera "Jos R Riquelme" se puede se alar en su proceso fue propiedad de 2 due os individuales y 2 compa as: "Roddas" y "La G mez Mena", que son el s mbolo del poder econ mico del capital nacional en la poca neocolonial y que le permiti sobrevivir a esta industria la crisis econ mica del a o 1929. Su nombre original "Nuestra Se ora de Monserrate", fundado por el Marqu s Campo Florido "Miguel de C rdenas", pasa a propiedad de Lezama Lima en 1888, en 1900 a "Roddas y Compa a" y en 1930 a la C a "G mez Mena" con el nombre de "Resoluci n" y finalmente al triunfar la Revoluci n se nombra Jos R. Riquelme en honor a quien fue trabajador del mismo y su m ximo l der sindical. Por ltimo, tomando como punto fundamental el proceso transformador de este sector industrial y en su ltima fase ha quedado como coloso activo en el municipio el Panchito G. Toro. El Jos R. Riquelme fue victima de las crisis econ micas y de las exigencias de las transformaciones de las nuevas tecnolog as.
