Synopses & Reviews
Confronting Complexity is intended for scientists, program managers, and regulators responsible for investigating and developing solutions for complex environmental problems. This book explicitly addresses the multidisciplinary nature of such problems, in clear contrast to most other works on environmental assessment and management, which focus primarily through the lenses of individual disciplines. Confronting Complexity's hypertext format makes it simple to point and click' to select desired information at relevant levels of detail, including annotated figures and pop-up' examples. It is avowedly practical in approach, containing numerous real-world examples and decision support tools. The key to its usefulness is the way it weaves together the management (or people') and technical aspects of complex problems, aspects that are unavoidably intertwined in real-world situations. Its relaxed, informal tone, which intentionally avoids jargon, makes its material much easier to grasp.
