Ante el aumento de la esperanza de vida la etapa del climaterio en la mujer se ha convertido en una oportunidad para mejorar su salud presente y futura . Dentro de las formas de intervenci n, la terapia hormonal de reemplazo se presenta como una alternativa eficaz en mejorar la calidad de vida y prevenir enfermedades cr nicas como la osteoporosis, pero a su vez se muestra peligrosa al aumentar riesgos de otras enfermedades como el c ncer de mama o los eventos tromboemb licos. Actualmente el debate contin a en referencia a su real beneficio y si ste supera los riesgos. Un an lisis cuidadoso de la informaci n disponible y de estudios futuros permitir aclarar mejor este dilema.Por el momento se recomienda emplearla en pacientes seleccionadas, en el momento adecuado, es decir, con una indicaci n clara, por tiempo no muy prolongado y dentro de una estrategia de atenci n integral que incluya el estilo de vida. Dentro de este contexto la presente investigaci n trata de presentar datos de mujeres en climaterio en el contexto cotidiano de la consulta externa, su percepci n y el impacto del tratamiento hormonal que reciben.
