Synopsis
The State of Nebraska began construction on its third and final capitol building in 1922. Architect Bertram Goodhue believed that placing artwork throughout the capitol was the best means of telling the story of Nebraska. Working with Nebraska-born philosopher Hartley Burr Alexander, Goodhue crafted a narrative--inside and outside the building--of the state's development and aspirations. Under Goodhue and Alexander's direction, artists, muralists, and sculptors came together make Nebraska's capitol the state's largest public art gallery.
Creative Genius: The Art of the Nebraska Capitol explains the meaning behind the artwork, the inspiration of the artists who contributed, and a history of the building itself.
