The Secret
Everybody in Jessica's English class makes fun of Daphne. She never says a word to anyone -- just walks around with her nose in a book, with her long straggly hair hanging over her face. Now the worst thing has happened. The teacher has assigned Jessica to be partners with Daphne in the Write-A-Book contest!
But being forced to work with the class "weirdo", Jessica gets an even bigger surprise. Not only does Daphne talk to her, but she tells Jessica a terrible secret...one that Jessica knows could be very dangerous to keep.
Synopsis
Jessica is not thrilled when she is paired with her weird classmate Daphne. But Jessica is in for a pleasant surprise when she spends afternoons with Daphne and her little sister, Hope. Jessica also comes to discover Daphne's tragic secret on which Daphne has her swear to secrecy. But when the secret becomes a threat to Daphne and Hope, Jessica is torn between her friendship and doing what she knows is best.
About the Author
Always interested in writing, Mary Downing Hahn became a children's author only after experimenting with a wide variety of careers, from junior high school art teacher to college instructor to children's librarian. Today she is the author of more than twenty books that have appeared on countless state awards lists. Her stories run the gamut from historical fiction such as the popular Gordy trilogy, to ghost stories such as Wait Till Helen Comes and Look for Me by Moonlight.
