Synopses & Reviews
Col McCann is used to being in trouble. It is always the McCann family, in particular Mungo, Col's brother, that the police think of first when trouble comes to their town. But when Col saves a boy from drowning in a nearby loch and discovers what it is like to be a local hero, his loyalty to his trouble family wavers. Beyond that, Col has seen something underwater in the loch, something that is still submerged in his memory. When it resurfaces, Col is led to a devastating truth about his brother. His loyalty to family and his need to do what is right collide as he races to uncover Mungo's darkest secret yet. A fast paced novel set in the fascinating and mysterious land of the Scottish lochs.

Synopsis
Col McCann's older brother Mungo is a well-known bad guy--a thug--and Col is used to everyone just knowing that the McCanns are bad news. But Col is not a bad kid, though he is a loyal brother to Mungo. One winter day while wandering near a lake, he watches a younger boy, Dominic, venture out onto thin ice. Sure enough, Dominic falls in, and despite his reservations, Col goes after him, nearly drowning himself in the process. He becomes a local hero and the McCann name seems a bit less tarnished. Meanwhile, as Dominic starts idolizing him, Col is having strange flash-backs--there was something else in the lake; he is haunted by visions of another boy. Who could it be? How did he get there?? Is he dead??? The more he thinks about it and the stranger his brother acts, the closer Col comes to suspecting the worst.
