Description
In 1993 Amarantha Knight took Bram Stoker`s classic Dracula, a tome heavy with the repressed sexuality of the Victorian age, and unrepressed it. She brought the sexual undercurrent to the surface and made it the central action in the story. Here we have the well-known characters of Mina, Jonathan Harker, and of course the vampire himself. But Knight`s Dracula is not the cretinous lurker of Herzog`s cinematic Nosferatu. Rather, he is a powerful being who takes his pleasure not only from drinking blood, but from dominating his victims and listening to them beg. Knight injects bondage, spanking, and S/M into the proceedings, combined with tongue-in-cheek humor, all to the delight and satisfaction of her readers. The popularity of the book prompted several editions and the follow-up volumes in The Darker Passions series, including Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Carmilla, and others. Circlet Press will be returning the entire series to print, beginning with Dracula, just in time for Halloween.
