Excerpt from De Pulchro Et Sublimi
Qui aptissime atque ad vivum expressit propositam formam, is sine dubio dicitur habere ingenium artifex. Imitatio autem sola et unica non potest efficere pulchri vim et naturam ac fundamentum. Quam quidem sententiam ipse Proudhon, audacissimus ille realista, aperte confitetur in libello Du principe de l'art et de sa desti nation sociale (paris 1865) bisce verbis:, L'art n'est rien que par l'id al, ne vaut que par l'id al; s'il se borne une simple imitation, copie ou contrefacon dela nature, il fera mieux de s'abstenir, il ne ferait qu' taler sa propre insignifiance en d shonorant les objets memes de la nature qu'il aurait imit s. Sed sume, pulchrum in una imitatione versari, consequitur ut expressio et eorum, quae vir summa integritate et innocentia facit honesta, et eorum quae quis delinquit, et ipsa pulchra sit, quod quidem absurdum est. 3) Ergo consentaneum est, pulchritudinem ex fallaci naturae imitatione non aestiman dam esse.
