Synopsis
A non-magical guy with modern technical knowledge finds himself transported to an unspoiled version of the Great Lakes. He has only his tool kit, a cellphone and his solar powered electric bike. He creatively uses each to help him start a new life in a small forest village. The locals carry on the traditions they were taught by The First Ones, native Anishinaabe people who were later wiped out by a plague. Their successors protect the environment and honor the teachings of their native benefactors. These folks are not exactly human. They are, in fact, highly ethical and mostly lovable Demons. Stronger, smarter, longer lived and more polite than the rest of us. In this light-hearted adventure, an unnaturally huge bear threatens a Demon child near the village. Law dictates that since the dangerous beast injured no one, it must be banished, not killed. Bears generally don't take kindly to banishment. So Marlon has to use copper age technology and his modern knowledge to keep the giant beast under control for a long journey. Accompanied by a Demon team, Marlon has to relocate the carnivorous cargo to a forested island in the great lake Michigami. There is no casting of fireballs, mumbling of spells nor outrageous transgressions against Newtonian physics. It's a relatively non-violent, if unlikely adventure in a beautiful but overwhelming natural environment. Caution: Some extremely annoying trolls were injured or devoured in the production of this novel.
