Synopsis
Excerpt from Domestic Violence as a Public Health Issue: Hearing Before the Resources and Intergovernmental Relations Subcommittee of the Committee on Government Operations, House of Representatives, One Hundred Third Congress, Second Session, October 5, 1994
As the President of the ama, I take pride in the fact that we have organized a national coalition of physicians against violence. Also, on March 11-13 of this year, we sponsored the National Conference on Family Violence: Health and Justice in Washington, DC, which focused on how medicine and the law can work effectively together to address family violence. We have presented testimony many times before the Congress on the subject of domestic and family violence, most recently before the Senate Special Committee on Aging this past June. We are on the front lines trying to reverse this epidemic.
