Das Lehrbuch schafft einen ersten Zugang zu den Grundgesetzen der Mechanik. Gestutzt auf dem Begriff des starren Korpers und der unabhangig eingefuhrten Lasten Kraft und Moment werden die beiden eigenstandigen Bilanzen der Krafte und Momente im Fall des Gleichgewichts eines Korpers und beliebiger Teile desselben postuliert. Diese hauptsachlich von Euler vorgenommene Erganzung der Newtonschen Mechanik eroffnet einen Weg, der die weiterfuhrenden Teile Festigkeitslehre und Kinetik mit der Statik in einem einheitlichen Konzept verbindet. Damit werden gunstige Voraussetzungen fur ein erleichtertes Verstandnis der gesamten Technischen Mechanik und anschlieender, insbesondere der Computermechanik zugrunde liegender Gebiete geschaffen.
Das Buch behandelt in bewahrter Anordnung ebene einfache und zusammengesetzte Tragwerke einschlielich der Schnittreaktionen sowie in geringerem Umfang auch raumliche Tragwerke. Reibungsphanomene werden beschrieben. Das Buch schliet mit den Berechnungsmethoden fur den Schwerpunkt und die Flachenmomente zweiter Ordnung, welche in der Festigkeitslehre benotigt werden.
Die knappe Darstellung lehnt sich stark an den Inhalt verschiedener Kursvorlesungen an. Die mathematischen Hilfsmittel werden so gering wie moglich gehalten. Zahlreiche Aufgaben mit vollstandig durchgerechneten Losungen unterstutzen die Erarbeitung des Stoffs. Daher ist das Buch neben der Vorlesung auch zum Selbststudium bestens geeignet.
