Heutzutage wird immer wieder von sogenannten Volkskrankheiten gesprochen, die vor allem in westlichen Industriestaaten weit verbreitet sind. Zu diesen geh ren k rperliche Erkrankungen wie Herz- Kreislauf- Erkrankungen und Krebs aber auch psychische Erkrankungen wie Depressionen oder Burnout.
