This is the sixth issue of the Monograph on various aspects of the EndocrineTherapy of Breast Cancer. The monograph includes a broad spectrum of issues including aspects of breast cancer, prevention and molecular genetics, autocrine and paracrine growth factors, the molecular biology of the oestrogen receptor and methods of abrogating endocrine resistance and new aspects of the therapy with antioestrogens and antiprogestogens. There are also chapters on aspects of immunotherapy and adjuvant chemo-endocrine therapy and quality of life issues. Special importance is given to the biological basis of the affects of endocrine therapy. Inaddition to novel endocrine treatments the affects of combined chemotherapy and endocrine therapy in the adjuvant situation are discussed. Breast cancer continues to represent an enormous challenge both to the basic scientist and to the clinical researcher. The latest issue of the European School of Oncology Monograph will be helpful in promoting cross fertilisation between the basic and applied disciplines.
