Der Verlag stellt mit diesem Archiv Quellen fur die historische wie auch die disziplingeschichtliche Forschung zur Verfugung, die jeweils im historischen Kontext betrachtet werden mussen. Der urspriingliche Z weck dieser Studie war, die Verhaltnisse der hydraulischen Energieerzeugung systematisch klarzulegen. Es hat sich jedoch bald- herausgestellt, daB Wasserkraftwerke als selbstandige Be- triebe in der modernen Energiewirtschaft nicht erhalten werden konnen; sie sind auf die Mitarbeit von kalorischen Werken angewiesen. Auch die Kostenlage der hydraulischen Energieerzeugung kann nur im Wege eines Vergleiches mit der rein kalorischen Produktion bestimmt werden. Eine systematische Untersuchung der hydraulischen Energieerzeugung kann daher nur gemeinsam mit der Analyse der kalorischen Produktion im Rahmen der allgemeinen Energiewirtschaft erfolgen. Die schwungvolle Entwicklung des elektrischen Energieumsatzes fiihrt zu einer Kuppelung von kalorischen und hydraulischen Werken sowie Speicherkraftwerken verschiedener GroBe, Bauart, Lage, Alter. und Wirtschaftlichkeit. In dieser Betriebsgemeinschaft bildet nunmehr die technische Vollkommenheit und Wirtschaftlichkeit der einzelnen Werke weder die Bedingung noch die Gewahr fiir das beste Gesamt- ergebnis. Der Hochstertrag von zusammenarbeitenden Kraftwerken ergibt sich vielmehr durch eine Anpassung des Absatzes und der Er- zeugung, im Wege einer quantitativen und qualitativen Zergliederung des Absatzes entsprechend den festen und veranderlichen Kosten der Erzeugung und zwar nicht nur betriebstechnisch, sondern auch bau- technisch, bereits bei der Errichtung der Kraftwerke. Hiedurch entsteht eine organische Einheit der gekuppelten Werke: ein kiinstlich kon- struierter Verbundbetrieb, der die Energie billiger, unter Umstanden wesentlich billiger zu erzeugen vermag, als ein rein kalorisches Kraftwerk.
