About the Author
Jacqueline Vaughn is a professor in the Department of Political Science at Northern Arizona University, where she specializes in public policy and administration. Professor Vaughn holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, where she also attended the Graduate School of Public Policy. She taught previously at the University of Redlands and at Southern Oregon University, where she served as chair of the department. Dr. Vaughn has a broad spectrum of nonacademic experience in both the public and private sectors, and as a consultant in political campaigns in several states. Her environmental background stems from her work with the South Coast Air Quality Management District in southern California, and as a policy analyst for Southern California Edison. Other books published include: ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVISM: A REFERENCE HANDBOOK; GREEN BACKLASH: THE HISTORY AND POLITICS OF ENVIRONMENTAL OPPOSITION IN THE UNITED STATES; and GEORGE W. BUSH'S HEALTHY FORESTS: REFRAMING THE ENVIRONMENTAL DEBATE. Her current research focuses on governmental responses to wildfires and on conflicts in natural resource policy. Dr. Vaughn has also written DISABLED RIGHTS: AMERICAN DISABILITY POLICY AND THE FIGHT FOR EQUALITY, and has served as an expert witness on the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Her current research, conducted in association with the Ecological Restoration Institute at NAU, focuses on the use of administrative appeals and litigation under the National Environmental Policy Act, forestry policy, and the United States Forest Service.
