Synopsis
Having long accepted the common opinion that only two American
women aphorists were worth reprinting (Mae West and Dorothy Parker),
I was surprised to discover the aphorisms of Minna Antrim and so
reprinted three of her books into a single volume. That discovery led me
in turn to inquire about others. An enthusiast for aphorism recommended
Mignon McLaughlin (1913-1983), a later writer whose collections I'd
reprint, were they not already protected by copyright. Looking back, I
discovered Edith Watts Mumford (1876-1940), who wrote some masterpieces.
