Synopsis
La formaci n de la identidad representa una tarea que impone gran presi n a los individuos cuando enfrentan situaciones de transici n, sobre todo en la sociedad actual. Al ingresar los j venes a las instituciones de educaci n superior viven un proceso del que tiene que resultar su autodefinici n social, personal e individual en condiciones de gran incertidumbre. Las ciencias sociales tienen el encargo de explicar ese complejo proceso de m ltiples aristas. Desde la Psicolog a Social importa conocer la forma en que los factores de la estructura social y los de la subjetividad individual se articulan para producir la autodefinici n. Se reporta una investigaci n cuyo prop sito fue estudiar el ajuste sociopsicol gico de j venes universitarios llevada a cabo mediante un Dise o Combinado Secuencial Explicativo en el que los datos cualitativos permitieron ampliar los hallazgos cuantitativos iniciales. Se discuten las relaciones entre Estilo de Identidad y Capital de Identidad como v nculos entre las dimensiones psicol gica y sociol gica del desarrollo de la identidad. Tal aproximaci n result relevante para el estudio de la autodefinici n personal y social en estudiantes universitarios.
