His faith makes him what he is. Without a doubt, the 2004 presidential election made a statement to the entire world. Mainstream commentators noted that it was the unusually high turnout of born-again Christians concerned over moral values who helped George W. Bush get reelected. Voters who said they regularly attend worship services favored Bush by a nearly 2-to-1 ratio.
In the first book to explore the religious ideals and background of the forty-third president of the United States, The Faith of George W. Bush discussed how Bush's spiritual beliefs shape his private life as well as drive his policies and politics. From his devotional time alone each morning to his frequent use of Scripture in his speeches, the president has learned to use his faith to help him live his public and private life. This revealing book, which was on the New York Times bestseller list for fifteen weeks, will inspire others to do the same. Exit polls from this most recent election show that people voted for Bush primarily for what he believes rather than for his competence. Clearly, they view his faith as a rock of security in the troubled sea of our age...Americans elected a man of faith because he was just that. The country will be best served if his advisors will simply let Bush be Bush. -Stephen Mansfield
This revised edition features a new preface by Stephen Mansfield; foreword by Ted Haggard, president of the National Association of Evangelicals; and prayers by John Hagee, senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas, and Stephen Strang, publisher of Charisma House.
About the Author:
Stephen Mansfield grew up largely in Europe as the son of a U.S. Army officer, an experience that afforded him an early love of history and international affairs. After becoming a Christian at the age of eighteen, Stephen attended a university where biblical faith and intellectual pursuits were merged. This integration of faith and thought shaped him profoundly, and he went on over the next several decades to earn two master's degrees and a doctorate in the fields of history, philosophy and literature. Stephen's life message is the idea of destiny, the certainty that God has made all things, including men and nations, with a purpose. All of his writing, his teaching, his work in the nations-and more recently, his focus on calling the United States to a reclaiming of its purpose-is centered around this much-neglected theme. Stephen is currently working on a variety of writing projects, including several biographies of great contemporary leaders. Stephen is the author of numerous books in history and leadership, including Never Give In: The extraordinary Character of Winston Churchill and Then Darkness Fled: The Liberating Wisdom of Booker T. Washington, and recently, the New York Times bestseller The Faith of George W. Bush.
