I have not read this book yet but I have taught school music for 32 years. This book would speak to MANY of my former students. I know that music has a power to heal and bring people together. I can't wait to read it!

Think of the fattest person you know then think of what they go through each day when they do something, anything someone almost always laughs. What would they do, actually what would you do? Maybe commit suicide by jumping in front of a train, a bus, a car? Well in Fat Kid Rules the World he is just about to when someone helps him. He is a skinny homeless pile of stink and dirt yet is one awesome guitarist. It has a great point of view for the fat kid, Troy, like what he eats and how he responds to people staring at him and how he feels about his family. Even though I’m a thin 120 pound person I know what he is talking about. Going spells out that Troy was hanging on by a single licorice strand until a little help and a small hobby like playing an instrument keeps him going and allows him surpass his standard for living and seeing other things. For some reason Troy thinks that everyone is always watching him just because his is six foot three-hundred pounds. Plus every time that he does something at his school like standing up or walking people laugh at him and it makes him hyperventilate which by the look of fat people walking around is exactly what they do. This book is for just about anyone fat, skinny. But if you know a little about music that would help a little to understand how hard some of the stuff he is trying to do. It would also help a little to have been to a concert to watch a band play just to relate to what he has to do and go through plus what has to be done if you’re in the band.

Can you imagine being 296 pounds, with no friends, a dead mother, and your brother hates you. I can tell you one person that can, Troy Billings. Not only does he have to face the everyday problems of life, but he has to face them with an extra 100 pounds on his body, until the day he meets Curt. Curt is a homeless kid that just wants to start a band and all he is missing is a drummer, which is where Troy comes in. While Troy is learning to play the drums he also learns new things about himself and gains his confidence back. Fat Kid Rules the World is a very comical book. Troy’s sarcastic humor keeps you laughing all the way until the end. Curt’s laid back attitude makes him easy to relate to and Troy’s brother, Dayle, makes you want to punch him in the face. I think this book is a fantastic book, because it has humor, sarcasm, and a great ending. The author’s message seems clear near the middle of the book, she is bluntly saying that we should accept ourselves the way we are. I think that not only does this book has a lot of values but it also shows ways to start accepting yourself and stop bringing yourself down. I think that when Troy starts putting posters in his room is a very important part, because he was learning how to show the real him. I would recommend this book for any teenager who needs help accepting themselves and wants to be who they are. I would not recommend this book for people who do not like foul language and that is not good at relating to characters.

Troy is a 296 pound obese kid goes through a lot of stuff in his life and finds a great friend in curt yet it’s his only friend when he is about to commit suicide and then there is troy. They then try to start a band and go big and Troy is the drummer in the band and he has no idea how to play the drums. This book had many excellent things in it one thing Troy had was he was about to commit suicide and he met a dirty homeless kid named Curt. This book was very interesting and I enjoyed it very much. I never wanted to put the book down every time I had to put the book down I was upset because I was so into this kind of a book. This book had a lot or cursing in it I would not have anyone read this that is under 6th grade. I liked how Troy didn’t have any friends but then when he met Curt they were already best friends, I also like how they started a band and troy had no idea how to play the drums but he quickly learned. I think the author’s message in this story was to say even if you are fat and you have no friends there will always be someone there for you. I think it is a very good book to read but not for young kids since it has so many curse words in it. When Curt invited Troy into a new band I think that showed Troy that he is not a horrible person and you can always find friends would recommend this to anyone that is a teen no younger than that. This is a suitable book for all genders. I think a lot of people could enjoy this story. I think parents would probably not enjoy this book as much as students would but it is very enjoyable.

Fat Kid Rules the World Have you ever been teased about your weight; have you ever moved and people laughed at you? Well Troy had this problem. He was a six-foot-one 300 pound sixteen year old kid. He has no friends and nobody likes him. His father was in the army so he has high expectations of his sons. Not to mention that he has a football player son that is pretty much perfect. One day while Troy was standing on the yellow line about to jump in front of the F train, somebody stopped him. This kid happened to be Curt; the most popular kid in the school. Curt is a smelly homeless kid that is known by everyone as the hot guitar god. Troy is surprised to hear that Curt wants him in a band with him; but Troy knows that he can’t play the drums. Troy doesn’t know if he can even trust Curt considering that he ditched him the night of their first gig and that he overdoses on pills. Troy’s dad eventually takes Curt into their home, and Troy becomes really good at the drums. This book really made me think about how good things can get for people with disabilaties and that you should never give up no matter how bad things are. Just never give up. This is a really good book for somebody who likes suspense. I would recommend it for teenagers. [245]

This is a memorable book about an overweight senior in high school named Troy. It starts with him about to jump in front of an oncoming train, when he hears the voice of a teen named Curt mc Cray, a rock legend in the punk rock world. Troy has no friends, and his brother hates him, but everything begins to turn around when the two boys join together to try to make a rock band. Troy’s dad believes that he can be a good drummer and buys him a sweet drum set. Curt and some of his friends from the band “smack metal puppets” try to teach Troy to play the drums, release all of his inhibitions, and finally be the punk rock person that has been hiding in him for all those years. After a few weeks of practicing, Troy starts to find the punk inside him, and begins to be an awesome drummer. Curt takes Troy to a “smack metal puppets” gig and shows him the essence of rock metal. The two of them start and unbreakable friendship, and an unbelievable band. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a book that you will remember for the rest of your life, and someone who needs a little punk rock in their life.

A depressed kid named Troy Billings is about to commit suicide. He has no friends, is miserable, and is incredibly fat. Before he can, a druggie named Curt stops him. They go out and eat lunch, and something Troy would never have thought would happen did happen, Curt asks Troy to be his drummer in his punk rock band! Troy gains a little more popularity, but with one problem. He has no idea how to play the drums. The book keeps you wanting to read it until it is over. It is short, yet very funny and interesting with thrilling moments. I liked the book because it had punk rock and I like music. It also kept me reading, wanting to read ahead of my book group. The message is to never give up, whether it be drumming and becoming a punk rock star, or getting friends. An example of this is when Troy throws up on stage and bails on their first concert. He thinks of ending his career as a drummer, only to come back and show them what he has, even more motivation and even more skills. I would recommend this book for people 13 and over. It has a lot of language, so I am sure adult people may heavily consider it first. If you plan to let your kids read it, be sure of its inappropriate content. If you like punk rock, you will most likely like this. Thank you for your time and thanks for reading. I hope you check out this book.

Standing on the edge of the subway platform is a kid named Troy that weighs over 300 pounds. He hates how everyone makes fun of him for the wrong reasons, so that makes him want to kill himself. Right before he thinks about jumping in front of the train, a dirty, skinny, and homeless kid named Curt, talks him out of jumping in front of the train. But when Curt asks Troy be the drummer for his new band, everything gets good from there. This story will take you through tons and tons of loops and turns to lead to the jaw dropping ending. But, I don’t really like to read that much, but this book made me want to explore the world of books. There has been very few book that I like but, this book was one of the best books I have ever read in the 15 years that I have been walking this earth. I wouldn’t really recommend this book to children under the age of 11. There are a couple reasons why I wouldn’t recommend this book to children under the age of 11. One of the reasons is that there is at least 1 curse word on every page, and I don’t think that their parents would want them to read a book that is like that. The other reason is because there is a lot of sexual content in this book.

Fat Kid Rules the World Is about a kid that weighs about three-hundred pounds. He doesn’t like it how everyone makes fun of him so it makes him want to kill himself. He is standing on the edge of the subway station platform waiting for a train to come and right before he is about to jump in front of the train a kid named Curt, a homeless kid that everyone thinks is dead, stops him from jumping out in front of the train. This story is so good you will want to read it over and over again. This book was an awesome book. There has been a very few books that I have liked but this one is one that I like. I don’t like to read much but if I wanted to I would read it again. It was a very good book but it was violent and well worded. This is my favorite book I have read in my life. I liked this book because it was about making a band and I would like to be in a band. I wouldn’t recommend it to any kids under the age of 12 because there are a lot of curse words in every page and it is not stuff that they would want to read about. This is not a good book for anyone that is not in high school. I would recommend it for boys to read. I wouldn’t recommend it to a girl because it has stuff in there that girls would not want to read.
