About the Author
Mary Beth Allen is Professor of Reading Education at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. Prior to that, she worked for 18 years in the Baltimore County Public Schools, as a classroom teacher, resource teacher, and reading specialist. She has consulted with numerous school districts supporting teachers as they refine their literacy instruction, specifically in guided reading, implementing literacy centers, and teaching comprehension strategies.
Mary Beth is the co-author of 3 books published by the International Reading AssociationGuided Comprehension: A Teaching Model for Grades 3-6, Guided Comprehension: Lessons in Action, and Guided Comprehension in Grades 3-8: Combined Second Edition. She has also created two videos with the Bureau of Education and ResearchCurrent, Best Strategies for Teaching Reading Comprehension, Grades K-2 and Strengthening Students' Reading Comprehension, Grades 3-6. This is her first book for Scholastic Teaching Resources.
