Synopsis
Die Studie befasst sich mit dem oberrheinischen Ausl ufer des sonst eher im Nordseeraum wahrgenommenen Friesenhandels. Im Zuge des von den Friesen getragenen Fernhandels mit speziellen Waren, Logistik und Organisation bildeten sich Handelsemporien, die in Wechselwirkung mit den oberrheinischen Bischofsst dten einen besonderen Stadttyp induzierten.

Die friesischen Handelsaktivit ten als Vorg nger des Hansehandels annehmend analysiert der Autor die Handelsorganisation der Friesen fern ihrer Heimatregion und die Interdependenzen zwischen dem von ihnen getragenen Fernhandel und der st dtischen Entwicklung der oberrheinischen Bischofsst dte Mainz, Worms, Stra burg und Basel. Die Ergebnisse veranschaulichen nicht blo Handelsrouten, Logistik, Warensortiment und Vertriebssystem friesischer H ndler auf der Rheinroute, sondern auch deren Wirkung am Oberrhein, insbesondere hinsichtlich der Auspr gung eines zur fr hmittelalterlichen Zeit einzigartigen St dtetypus, dessen Spuren noch heute im Stadtbild sichtbar sind.
