Die permanente Wechselwirkung zwischen Gesellschaft und Soziologie ist neu zu gestalten. Angesichts der gegenwärtigen kulturellen und technologischen Umbrüche und politischen Transformationen erscheinen die traditionellen Arrangements gesellschaftlicher Integration und Konsensbildung am Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts zur Disposition zu stehen. Dies nötigt nicht nur dazu, zeitgemäße theoretische und analytische Instrumente zu entwickeln, sondern skizziert gleichzeitig den Reflexionsraum, innerhalb dessen sich die Soziologie zu Beginn des neuen Jahruhunderts entwickelt. Entlang der Themen Theorie und Gesellschaft, Soziale Ungleichheit in der Marktgesellschaft und Facetten der Zivilgesellschaft umreisst der Band die Konturen einer zeitgemäßen Soziologie und repräsentiert deren Analyse- und Diagnosefähigkeit.
Synopsis
Unter dem Eindruck der Milleniumsbilanzen und -voraussagen fand im Mai 2000 im Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin eine Tagung mit dem herausfordern den Titel, Perspektiven der Soziologie im 21. Jahrhundert" statt. Alle Teil nehmer der Tagung sind in diesem Band vertreten; zusatzlich konnten noch erganzende Beitrage eingeworben werden. Idee und Konzeption der Tagung wurden gemeinsam mit Studenten und Studentinnen der Soziologie an der Humboldt-Universitat Berlin im Rahmen eines Kolloquiums entwickelt. Der Anstoss dazu kam von Studenten, die ihren Eindruck, dass sich ihr Studien fach in einer Zeitenwende befindet, sich neue Perspektiven, Themen und theoretische Zugange abzeichnen, konkretisieren und verifizieren wollten. Sie ist somit auch ein Produkt der Lehre. Es scheint sich im Erfahrungsraum der nachsten Generation schon einiges von dem abzulagern, was in diesem Band noch als Erwartungshorizont beschrieben wird. Wenn der Band dazu beitragt, die Linien der zukunftigen Soziologie deutlicher zu zeichnen, dann hatten wir - Lehrende wie Studierende - erreicht, was wir uns vorgenommen hatten."
