Synopses & Reviews
Synopsis
The first edition of this title came out in March 2020 just as the world was shutting down due the pandemic. As a result, it got little to no marketing and sales push, and its performance was hindered. As the current edition has no discussion of the pandemic, or several other global issues which have occurred since then, it is significantly out of date. This 2e will effectively be a relaunch of the 1e, with several improvements to meet new marketplace needs, will include significant content updates within the context of a well-regarded, familiar organizational structure, and will leverage our digital product strategy more effectively to provide a better solution for the IR/Global Politics course.
There are several key course issues/challenges that this product addresses, and there are several improvements to the product, described below, designed to more effectively meet those challenges and distinguish us from the competition. The course challenges, broadly speaking are to educate students to become "global citizens" who are able to apply what they are learning in the course and think critically about issues and events they encounter today and into the future; engage the students in their study of Global Politics with timely, high interest content to demonstrate its relevance to their everyday lives; and to ensure they understand and master what is quite challenging and abstract content in this course. Further, as a result of the pandemic, and our competitors offering more and more content in digital platforms, many of our reviewers have stated the need for more digital content to assign in their courses, above and beyond basic assessment. Simply put, students need a text that is very current, helps them master core content, teaches them how to think about global politics and apply their learning to their every day lives. Professors need a product that does all of the above and provides more digital content to assign to students that goes beyond simple assessment questions.
Synopsis
The world is becoming an ever-smaller place through globalization, finance and economics, technology, media, and the many global issues that transcend borders. In this text, authors Mark Boyer, Natalie Hudson, and Michael Butler have developed an approach to the subject that incorporates historical context where necessary in the discussion of global issues, while also integrating the mainstream theoretical approaches within every chapter to provide students a rich and meaningful way to understand and critically analyze what is happening in the world today. This approach helps students to go beyond the abstract and challenging presentation of concepts, theories, actors, and events that exists in most undergraduate level Global Politics texts, to using the findings from this field in applied and practical ways.
