Synopsis
In 2008, the National Museum of the American Indian's George Gustav Heye Center in New York City presented the exhibition "Guardians of the Forest" by the well-known Sao Paulo photographer Rodrigo Petrella. Having established a strong reputation "as a highly regarded artist" working in the fields of ant and fashion photography in New York City, in the aftermath of 9/11, Petrella returned to Brazil and began working on a comprehensive socially-committed project in the Amazon taking photographs of the indigenous people of the Brazilian Amazon. Such massive body of work, including scores of images of daily and communal life within this complex and biologically diverse environment, can now be seen in this book.
