This third edition of the Handbook of British Chronology, published by the Royal Historical Society in 1986, is now available from Cambridge University Press. This book is acknowledged as the authoritative and indispensable record of all holders of major offices in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland from the 5th to the late 20th century. The third edition incorporates greatly expanded sections containing new material on British officers of state during the Civil War and Commonwealth, and on bishops of England, Scotland and Ireland.
