When her monumental painting Rhapsody was first shown in 1976 at the Paula Cooper Gallery in New York, it became one of the most successful works of art in recent times. Jennifer Bartlett: Writings combines her acclaimed 1985 autobiographical novel House of the Universe with an early, conceptual poem from 1971, Cleopatra. Currently her work is on display at the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, amongst others.

History of the Universe and Cleopatra combines an expanded version of her acclaimed 1985 autobiographical novel History of the Universe, including previously unpublished material, with an early, conceptual poem from 1971, Cleopatra.
