Synopsis
This book examines the life and reign of Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, the most famous European ruler of the Middle Ages. He conquered much of western Europe and united it under one great empire. Charlemagne revived the political and cultural life of Europe, which had collapsed after the fall of the West Roman Empire in the fifth century. His activities laid the foundation for the Holy Roman Empire which lasted over seven hundred years.
