Il demeurait en ce temps - l au bout du Luxembourg, pr s de l'observatoire, dans une petite rue peu fr quent e baptis e du nom de Cassini, sans doute cause du voisinage astro nomique. Sur le mur du jardin qui en occupait presque tout un c t , et au bout duquel se trouvaitle pavillon habit par Balzac, on lisait Labsolu, marchand de briques. Cette enseigne bizarre, qui subsiste encore, si nous ne nous trompons, nous frappa beaucoup; la Recherche de l'absolu n'eut peut- tre pas d'autre point de d part. Ce nom fatidique a probablement sugg r l'auteur l'id e de Balthasar Claes au pourchas de son r ve impossible.
