Synopsis
Excerpt from Hospitals and Asylums of the World, Vol. 1: Volume I. Asylums History and Administration
The task has been one of singular difficulty, entailing much correspondence and a mastery Of languages difficult to acquire. The author is conscious that the result may be found disappointing, although he has spared neither time nor money in the endeavour to do justice to a great subject, a more general and accurate know ledge of which must tend materially to diminish suffering and to increase the comfort of those members of the community who are least able, or are wholly unable, to make provision for themselves. It is hoped that a more intelligent and sustained interest may be excited by the publication of this book, because experience has.
