Synopsis
Howard Ben Tre is the leading artist of our time working in the medium of glass, a pioneer in the industrial casting of glass for art. He has devised monolithic sculptural forms that are at once unmistakably contemporary and reminiscent of archaic forms of many world cultures. Sometimes combining glass with stone and metal, his work is at once elegant and earthy, glowing from within with its own light and energy.
This first monograph on Ben Tre accompanies a touring exhibition organized by the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Arizona, also traveling to three California museums: Palm Springs Desert Museum, San Jose Museum of Art, and Orange County Museum of Art. It provides a comprehensive survey of the artist's oeuvre in stunning colorplates of his major sculptures, including many recent public projects, and drawings.
