If the legiflature of Mafl'achufetts could, on the communica tion of even both its fenators, jointly made, by the governour, as their involuntary organ, control the national councils in regard to our concerns with foreign powers, why fhould not the legiflatures of each of the other fiates do the fame And does not this com pletely diffolve the national compact Is this what you and your party are after If it is, come forward and avow it openly, and we {hall know where to meet you.
I requeft that this may clofe our correfpondence. I have not time to walte in this way. I can gain the end of my political year as governour without your aid; and as a private citizen I want no information from you. I have alreadyaffured you that I will not be the organ of your communication and I, now affure you that I will not be the obje 't of your addrefs in matters evident ly tending to the overthrow and dilfolution of the United States.
