Synopsis
Excerpt from King's College Lectures on Colonial Problems
HE lectures printed in the present volume were delivered at King's College during the summer term of the session 1912 - 13. During the preceding year, an address by Mr. Sidney Low before the British Academy had given rise to considerable discussion both in the Press and in academic circles as to the teaching of imperial studies. Such a term was taken to include all that related to the history of the Empire, its laws and institutions, the languages and dialects spoken within its borders, its commerce and its economic re sources. There seemed to be a general con sensus of Opinion that London should be the centre of such imperial studies, and that the studies should be organised by a single authority. The obvious body to undertake the work is the University of London. That University.
