You know, there's a school of thought that says the artist and the criminal are variants of the same basic personality type. Did you know that?" Donald E. Westlake (1933-2008) was an incredibly prolific crime writer who also used the pen name Richard Stark. It was as Stark that he wrote the Parker series, which is his most famous work. He also wrote books with a thief and actor named Alan Grofield, who pulls some jobs with Parker. This entertaining heist novel is Grofield solo. Some films made from Westlake/Stark books include "Point Blank," "The Hot Rock," "Payback," and "Parker." Westlake also wrote the screenplays to "The Stepfather" and "The Grifters." Elmore Leonard, Stephen King, Lawrence Block, and Ed McBain are among his many admirers.
