Synopsis
Im spaten 10. Jh. verfasste ein anonymer Autor, wohl in Konstantinopel, das fiktive Protokoll eines Religionsgesprachs zwischen dem Erzbischof Gregentios und dem judischen Schriftgelehrten Herban. Das Gesprach soll in Taphar im Jemen zur Zeit der christlichen Mission am Anfang des 6. Jh. stattgefunden haben. Es ist eingebettet in eine ebenso fiktive hagiographische Vita des Helden, in der verschiedene Quellen des 6. bis 9. Jh. verarbeitet sind - darunter auch eine, die sonst unbekannte Nachrichten uber die Zeit der athiopischen Herrschaft im Jemen vor dem Einbruch des Islam enthalt.
Diese Texte, zu denen noch die angeblich von Gregentios im Jemen erlassenen Gesetze treten, werden von Albrecht Berger ausfuhrlich untersucht, auf der Basis aller bekannten Handschriften kritisch ediert und ubersetzt. Fur einen groen Teil dieses Corpus handelt es sich dabei um die erste Edition uberhaupt.

In the late 10th century, an anonymous author wrote the fictitious account of a religious dialogue between Archbishop Gregentios and the Jewish scribe Herban and included it in a life of Gregentios based on earlier sources, which indicate that he was a missionary in Yemen in pre-Islamic times. Albrecht Berger examines and translates these texts, and he presents a critical edition. Composed of scholars from various disciplines, the editorial and advisory boards welcome submissions from a range of fields, including history, literary studies, art history, theology, and philosophy. Millennium-Studien also accepts manuscripts on Latin, Greek, and Oriental cultures.
In addition to offering a forum for monographs and edited collections on diverse topics, Millennium-Studien publishes commentaries and editions. The journal primary accepts publications in German and English, but also considers submissions in French, Italian, and Spanish.
