With its new subtitle, Romance Literatures of the World, the book series mimesis presents an innovative and integral understanding of the Romance world and Romance Studies from the perspective of literary studies and cultural theory. It takes account of the fact that the fascinating development of Romance literatures and cultures both in Europe and beyond has set in motion worldwide dynamics which continue the great traditions of the Romance world and open up new horizons for them. mimesis works from a transareal understanding of Romance Studies which integrates Romance literatures and cultures both within and outside Europe and which transcends the national and disciplinary boundaries which often conceal the interactions between different traditions and developments in Europe and the Americas, in Africa and Asia. In the archipelago of Romance Studies, mimesis reveals how the representation of reality in the Romance literatures of the world opens the door to a multilingual cosmos of diverse logics.

This volume studies the processes of translation, transmission, and transposition of this knowledge as they manifest themselves in the field of French literature.

Ceux-ci y trouvent la source d'une nouvelle po sie, d'un imaginaire d passant la logique positiviste, mais aussi des formes textuelles nouvelles, une po tique, voire une esth tique permettant de red finir l'id e du beau . Le pr sent volume tudie l'impact des savoirs biologiques sur la cr ation litt raire du XIXe si cle, en se donnant trois objectifs: (1) tudier la diffusion et la r ception des savoirs biologiques par les crivains du XIXe si cle, en pr tant une attention particuli re aux travaux trangers majeurs en la mati re; (2) analyser l'usage et les fonctions des savoirs biologiques dans les textes litt raires, leurs transformations sur le plan du contenu, de l' criture et de la po tique, ce qui pr suppose aussi l'identification des enjeux id ologiques de ces savoirs; (3) penser les rapports ou les d calages entre l'histoire des sciences et l'histoire de la litt rature, qui tant t rend compte de d bats d'actualit , tant t au contraire s'inscrit dans des savoirs plus anciens.
