Synopses & Reviews
From the inception of Deitch Projects in 1996, art world provocateur Jeffrey Deitch has shown he has the prescience of legendary dealers like Leo Castelli combined with the publicity and marketing instincts of a Hollywood tastemaker. His unique approach to programming-which takes as its point of departure the convergence of art, fashion, music, and pop culture-has kept audiences and critics spellbound. Deitch Projects has held sway over the art world for a decade by confounding every expectation of what art is. At the forefront of the creative landscape, Deitch has created less a traditional gallery than a venue for experimentation in the visual arts, supporting the likes of Vanessa Beecroft, Fischerspooner, Kehinde Wiley, Mariko Mori, Liza Lou, Barry McGee, and Tim Noble and Sue Webster. This rich compilation of the gallery's 180 projects is a revelry of some of the most important art created over the last ten years. Each section devoted to a project features documentary photographs of the exhibition and photos of all the events associated with the project (including the raucous openings and performances), providing rare insight into the art and the scene Deitch has fostered.
