Synopses & Reviews
This is the third edition of Dr. Steven Goodman's highly popular and successful
Medical Cell Biology textbook. Dr. Goodman is a respected expert in this field and led the Association of Anatomy, Cell Biology and Neurobiology Chairs in drafting the Cell Biology portion of the United States and Canadian Curriculum in the Anatomical Sciences. This book, with its National Board type questions, is specifically designed to prepare students for this exam. This textbook covers Medical Cell Biology in a succinct manner, focusing on aspects which are important to students in medical, dental, veterinary and pre-health majors at both the undergraduate and advanced degree level.
The book maintains a concise focus on eukaryotic cell biology as it relates to human and animal disease, all within a manageable 300 page format. This is accomplished by explaining general cell biology principles in the context of organ systems and disease.
This third edition features substantially new and revised content by an almost entirely new panel of contributing authors. Topics such as apoptosis and cell death from a neural perspective, signal transduction as it relates to normal and abnormal heart function, and cell cycle and cell division related to cancer biology are introduced in this edition. This book is further enhanced by the addition of beautiful multi-color illustrations that add to the readability of what has arguably become the textbook of choice in medical schools and universities throughout the world. Finally, the accompanying CD-ROM is a tremendous upgrade to this edition, containing all new test questions geared towards preparing students to take their board exams.
* Provides a succinct and complete treatment of the subject of Medical Cell Biology
* Focuses on eukaryotic cell biology as it related to human disease, thus making the subject more accessible to pre-med and pre-health students
* Substantially revised including new chapters on cell death; and cell cycle and cancer; as well as all new clinical cases
* Serves as a prep guide to the National Medical Board Exam with a CD of 200 sample board-style questions
* Low student-friendly price
* Author has been President of the Association of Anatomy, Cell Biology and Neurobiology Chairs and will become Editor in Chief of the prestigious journal Experimental Biology and Medicine beginning June 2006
Review
“The Third Edition of
Medical Cell Biology by Steven Goodman is a highly-readable cell biology textbook designed specifically for medical students. The use of clinical cases builds a framework for the basic concepts and helps reinforce understanding. Every medical student should arm him or herself with this book as preparation for the board exam.”
--John Clancy, Jr., PhD, Professor and Chair, Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Anatomy, Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois; President of the Association of Anatomy, Cell Biology, and Neurobiology Chairs
“An extremely valuable book for undergraduate, graduate and health professional students that is essential to learning contemporary cell biology, both from the historical standpoint, and from the current literature.”
-- Ian S. Zagon, PhD, Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Hershey, Pennsylvania
