Poetry. "Damon regards language as prayer thought. His lines move with a strange speed of wonder yet with an ear towards newfound sound. This is good music"--Thurston Moore. "A man digs a trench. Another begins to sing. Harmless enough for a start. So we trustingly follow the clear logical steps--and suddenly find ourselves on the other side of the mirror, in a new dimension of thought. From here, our daily predicaments seem both funny and sad, but always marvelous"--Rosmarie Waldrop. Damon Krukowski is the co-founder and editor of Exact Change, a Surrealist press located in Boston.
Synopsis
In these lines of prose poetry, Damon Krukowski often attempts to state the obvious--much like the character in the Chekhov story who only allows himself to make the most evident remarks, such as "horses eat oats," or "winter is colder than summer." But truth is elusive, and Krukowski's poems also bear the record of the difficulties he has encountered in its pursuit. "The Memory Theater Burned sings a cacophony of voices: the voice of the professional singer (Krukowski's day job), the teller of tall tales, the neurotic on the couch...with echoes of those lost Jewish voices of Biblical commentary and embellishment, and their modern counterparts such as Scholem, Benjamin, Alter, and Yerushalmi.
