Synopses & Reviews
From a popular and innovative Turkish author comes a darkly comic tale about humanity's endless and entertaining absurdity, and its futile attempts to create perfection. Kicked out of conservatory in his youth, our narrator wanders exotic worlds before arriving at a city called Motherland. The city's inhabitants never talk about evil events, but the messenger boy murders are different. As our increasingly intoxicated narrator attempts to solve the mystery of the deaths of these seemingly perfect creatures, he discovers the city's strange secrets.
A swift, hypnotic tale, populated by outrageous characters: genetically engineered messenger boys; a wolf scientist stock broker; an Indian servant and Shakespeare scholar named Wang Yu; and a monkey called Isabelle.
Synopsis
Unwillingly charged with investigating mysterious deaths among the city's fleet of seemingly perfect, ageless messenger boys, Stravrogin encounters the city's strange, charismatic characters and its even stranger secreta program of genetic engineering.
