TO SAVE HERSELF GENEALOGIST TORIE O'SHEA MUST UNRAVEL AN EIGHTY-YEAR-OLD MYSTERY-AND UNMASK A KILLER...
Most people would think historian Torie O'Shea is a very lucky person to be the sole inheritor of a sprawling estate belonging to her great grandmother's old friend, Clarissa Hart. So why then is Torie far from happy when she hears the news? For starters, she had never met the woman and can't understand why the centenarian wanted to leave her property to a stranger. Secondly, the shabby, run-down boardinghouse is far from glamorous, with panthers roaming the acreage and a long-held superstition that it's cursed, bringing bad luck to whoever owns it...
Summoned by ailing, one-hundred-and-one-year-old Clarissa to West Virginia for the reading of her will, a very pregnant Torie and her cantankerous grandma, Gert, are given a frosty welcome by Clarissa's family, staff, and boarders alike. But before Clarissa can explain, and as if to prove the existence of the bad luck karma, she is murdered, and Torie, who unluckily happens upon the body, becomes Sheriff Thomas T. Justice's prime suspect. Is it the curse or justice gone awry? But where there's a will there's a way out, and feisty Torie goes on the offensive. Using her considerable snooping skills, she brings to light a lynching on the family tree and a deadly secret rooted in revenge-and becomes the all-too-conspicuous target of a killer out of control...
Review
"O'Shea has developed into a thoroughly likable character, funny and with enough flaws to make her human. Long may she snoop."--

Synopsis
A ten-hour car trip with your eighty-year-old grandmother is never much fun, especially if you're seven months pregnant. But when Torie O'Shea's longtime family friend Clarissa Hart Campbell insists that she and Grandma Gert come for a visit at her West Virginia boarding house, they just can't say no to the 101-year-old dynamo.
Upon their arrival, Torie and Gert find Clarissa has called together her entire family for the reading of her new will. But everything's happening too fast, even for Clari: the next morning, she's found murdered in bed. The new will stands, and her lawyer follows through on the old woman's wishes to settle an eighty-year-old debt to Torie's great-grandmother: The Panther Run Boarding House now belongs to Torie. Mystified, Torie must put her genealogy skills to work to determine what secrets worth killing for may be hiding in the dilapidated boarding house and the Campbell family story-before it's too late.
A comical blend of history and homicide, A Misty Mourning is another delightfully witty entry in Rett MacPherson's popular cozy series.
