Synopsis
Although best known for their exploits over Europe, the premier landbased U.S. fighters of World War II also made significant contributions in Asia. Besides escorting bombers from India to Rangoon, P-51 Mustangs were flown by American aces based in China. Similarly, P-47 Thunderbolts had a significant impact against Japanese installations in New Guinea, and were successful escorts on bombing sorties to the Home Islands.
