Synopses & Reviews
The Historical Dictionary of German Forenames is the first German lexicon of its kind documenting the occurrence and dissemination of almost every forename used in German-speaking countries since 1400, with copious references from printed and unprinted sources. The articles on individual names are arranged alphabetically and inform the reader about the meaning (etymology), use, and admissibility of the respective forename, as well as the correct pronunciation and spelling. They also indicate name patrons and refer to the relevant literature on the subject. Volume 5 contains addenda to volumes 1-4, plus an extended and revised bibliography for the whole work.
