Synopses & Reviews
With a unique regional organization and conceptual approach, NATIONS AND GOVERNMENTS: COMPARATIVE POLITICS IN REGIONAL PERSPECTIVE helps students understand national governments more fully by putting them into a larger regional context. This text documents the changes brought on by the post-Soviet era and the age of globalization, while charting the progress of emerging markets and democracies around the world. This new edition looks closely at the impact of the global recession, providing up-to-date analysis of national policy responses. It also details the continuing rise of Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with case-study coverage of each country.
Review
"The regional approach works well because it allows me to draw in cross-country historical and cultural material. Students also get a better appreciation of the linkages between "international" and "domestic" politics within this framework. Moreover, the regional coverage allows me to spend a majority of the time on the key aspects I want students to get out of this class... ."
Review
"There is NO other book out there with a regional focus like this one." - Dave Sacko, U.S. Air Force Academy, CO.
Review
"The regional perspective makes the concepts easier to put into a modern context." - John Scire, University of Nevada, Reno
Review
"Although the author's 'regional approach' to the study of comparative politics is not the prevailing approach used in this country for introducing students to the sub-field, it has much to commend it and the author does a very good job of executing the task in this text, for those prospective instructors who might wish to employ such an approach."
Review
"... the text provides case studies of the more important countries in each region to illustrate the variations that occur. The index is superb and is one of the best I have seen over the years .... The glossary is also well done and the students have found it very useful .... The writing style is, in my opinion, excellent and at an appropriate level for students I teach."
