Best-selling veterinarian Dr. Bruce Fogle discusses the benefits of caring for dogs in a holistic, natural way, and how such care serves to improve a dog's life. Tap into the endless resources of Nature itself with this essential and up-to-the-minute book. In Natural Dog Care, Dr. Bruce Fogle, DVM -- veterinary surgeon, columnist, broadcaster and the worldís best-selling practicing vet -- examines and explains new methods of creating a healthier more energetic life for your dog using revolutionary holistic or "complementary" techniques, including acupressure, herbs, hydrotherapy, osteopathy, and manipulation. Illustrated with DK's signature style, bringing each bit of history, information and advice to life with color photographs and drawings, Natural Dog Care takes a simple and accessible approach to pet health. By explaining how dogs naturally relate to one another, owners can improve their dogsí obedience training, grooming and other habits. The book also offers an overview of canine emotional needs and developments, as well as a section on "Natural Training" which encourages the reader to put him- or herself in the dogís place. Problems may be prevented by anticipating a dog's need for physical and mental stimulation and employing natural discipline, like social exclusion, which mirror those techniques implemented by dogs themselves in a wild "pack" situation. Though the book focuses on ways to harness evolutionary defenses rather than suppress them with medications, the ever-practical Fogle does make room to explain when conventional care should be sought or combined with holistic health care. The result is an approach to caring for your dog that balances the best of the old and the new for advice you can trust and rely on for years to come.
